Wedding DVD Cover - Ben & Kezia

Behind The Scenes, Wedding Stills Add comments

I get a lot of questions from clients, and other videographers about my DVD’s. I thought it might be fun to share my latest Wedding DVD design. This also gives you a little insight into all the interworkings of what we offer in a typical wedding package. Believe it or not the DVD cover art tends to be an extremely important part of the overall wedding video. These videos could be passed around for years to come. The DVD cover is the first thing you look at when you see the video.

I have very strong opinions on DVD cover design. I like to use simple, clean layouts that let the images speak for themselves. I avoid background images, neon backgrounds or crazy designs. I just don’t want my wedding DVD’s to look dated in 20 years. Thus, I decided to simplify my designs and challenge myself to shoot images worthy of a simple layout.

The cover below is from Ben & Kezia’s wedding. I usually shoot the images for the cover myself, however we were just too busy shooting video that we didn’t have the extra time to take some snaps. These images were graciously provided by Ivey Photography. As you can see I did a little photoshop magic to them. I think the overall look turned out well. The couple was pleased which means I was pleased.

That DVD cover looks great. You really did a great job of keeping it simple, but also adding some style. Kudos!

Nice clean design. What do you use to label the DVD inside? I have been using a Dymo DiscPainter to make the cover insert and also a matching label for the DVD. It has worked well for me even though I am not a total uber tech geek.

I do all my designs in either Photoshop CS3 or Fireworks CS3. I design to the appropriate size and then use a DVD label program to print it off. I just import my design into the program and then rock from there. I stay away from designing in the label maker programs as there is not as many options. Just my process, not the end all be all. Cheers!
